Thorax airbags are estimated to reduce serious chest injuries in side-impact collisions by approximately 25%.
The protective effect is obtained by keeping the occupant away from the impact zone, and dampening the blow from the intruding side of the vehicle. Since the occupant is kept away from the intruding vehicle side, protection of the head is also improved. For adequate head protection special airbags are required, however.
The thorax bag is inflated within 12 thousands of a second; four times faster than a frontal airbag. The bag is inflated at a certain crash threshold, usually corresponding to a speed of the impacting vehicle of more than 15-20 km/h.
The system consists of a sensor and a module. The module is typically installed in the back rests of the front seats. Some vehicles have their side-impact airbags in the doors. The sensor is placed in the door or in the B-post area and connected to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) of the vehicle's other safety systems. The bag usually has a volume of only 12 liters to make it as gentle as possible but still efficient enough to provide required protection.

side airbag是指侧面相当于车窗高度的气囊，可以保护人的胳膊及侧面。
curtain airbag是侧气帘，保护头部，一般在车窗上把手靠后一点位置安装。 不管英文中有什么差别 中文翻译过来都是叫 侧气囊 即 side airbag
侧气囊根据定义的保护区域的不同 有的定义只保护胸部 这种气袋就小一些 有的定义是除了保护胸部之外还可以保护腹部 或者是胸腹臂三个部位都保护的话 那体积又要大一些了 当然这种定义的保护目标不同 装在座椅上的位置也会有差别的 比如说保护胸部的话 根据车大小不同 有的是几升 如QQ F1这种级别 如果配备侧气囊的话 体积就不会超过10升的 但又如远景 A5 F3这种车配备侧气囊的话 体积就会是13升左右
总的说来 在中国 就叫 侧气囊 忘记说 CURTAIN AIRBAG 了
CURTAIN英文中的意思是窗帘 翻译成中文 就是气帘或帘式气囊
AUTOLIV又管这个叫 IC （inflator curtain) 这个东东装在顶棚与车身侧面钣金之间 平时是像裹席子一样 裹在里面一旦要爆时 就爆开了 这个东西就是为了保护头部的 另外还有一个目的是 C-NCAP中会有加分的哦 不过要配合侧气囊一起 也就是说一个车如果有侧气囊和气帘的话会获得一分的加分项 另外还有两分的加分项分别是乘员检测和安全带提醒装置 一共就是三分 只保护胸部位置的侧气囊？:loveliness: :lol 谢谢讲解 又叫驾驶员侧安全气囊
